<< Ron Paul on Morton Downey Jr [1988] Fortress Switzerland >>
‘08 Election thoughts
As I sit hear watching columnist George Will flippantly tout Ron Paul on George Stephanopoulos’s “This Week” television program on “ABC News.” I have a few reactions:
1. Congressman Dr. Ron Paul will win a plurality in the New Hampshire Republican Primary
2. Dr. Paul may actually win some smaller State’s Primaries. He will amass several Delegates to the Republican National Convention.
3. Ron Paul, assuming, he does NOT win the Republican Nomination, will lead a fight at the Convention rather then releasing his Delegates to the prevailing candidate.
4. Dr. Paul and his Delegates may get booted from the GOP, this could lay the groundwork for a Libertarian Party on “steroids.”
The likelihood of the 4th point is actually rather remote in my opinion. Even the third point is unlikely but possible. It would be the major death nail for the Grand Old Party. At this point, NeoCons will have solidified their coup and paleoconservatives-libertarians will be even more politically homeless then they’ve ever realized. What about the Christian Right?
The NeoCons need them like the Democrats need Americans of African origin. Both factions represent a “political debt.” Chiefly, the Republicans would love to abandon their Pro-Life plank and other seemingly divisive “social issues.” The Democrats really don’t want to alienate “white voters” by embracing “black leadership” or taking on “inner city” issues.
My solution: The Christian Right has an amazing opportunity to reach out in love toward our “black” Citizens. Many of whom are extremely pro-Christian, anti-Homosexual marriage and crave so called “family values.” Calli t compassionate Conservativism or compassionate Socialism. The marriage of the two could prove a very strong political faction. Think about the other commonalities:
The Christian Right is largely anti-immigration
Blacks supposedly suffer at the hands of new immigrants, legal or otherwise
Black leadership since MLK has been Clerical, ditto the Christian Right
Both groups approve of Socialism, but for their own kind
School vouchers and School choice, giving black or fundamentalist Christian parents money? SOLD
Blacks serve disproportionately in the military. The Christian Right is pro-military
The Christian Right wants to appear multi-racial and not a white man’s club. Blacks want to “graduate” into the upper crust of American “society” and to many the Christian Right hold the doors to the corridors of power.
End result, Christian Right/Black Coalition, NeoCon Republican and NeoCon Democrat coalition to counterbalance the former, and lastly the old Right/Libertarian fringes still out in the cold. We need to change that fast.
Hungry for more?
