<< Part 1 Why I like Ron Paul? [The Racist Jerk’s Point-Of-View] >>
Symbolism v. Sanity
Evil; tending to cause great harm. The removal of a religious diorama from the public square is neither evil or divine. True evil isn’t dressing up like the massacred Virginia Tech students at a party or parading as Prince Harry did like Adolf Hitler.
Real evil is committing the heinous act of massacring students at Virginia Tech. Real evil isn’t playing Hitler, it is enacting his policies. Evil isn’t even denying the holocaust, it’s perpetuating one. Most of the ghouls at the concentration camps didn’t have Pentagrams on their armbands. Yes, they may have had Swastikas or other regalia, but Swastikas were used centuries before the Nationalist Socialist regime was ever conceived.
Human beings get swept up in the emotion of symbolism and pageantry. Stupid teenagers dressing up in black robes chanting by an open fire doesn’t constitute evil, it’s just stupid in my opinion. Self-identified Satanists and Wiccans are more misunderstood and talk than vile.
Think about it. Why do people flock to the occult? They’re bored. Nah. I go a step further. They are seeking self-aggrandizement. It’s why rappers call themselves Queens or Kings or give themselves fancy titles. It’s why con-artist call themselves doctors or lawyers, whether they earned the degree or not. This isn’t to down hard work, it’s only to drive home the point that we as humans seek purpose beyond our mortal bodies.
If you’re some pimple faced teenager working at a fast food joint, a black single welfare mother, an overweight fat chick living at home with parents, you want OUT, but you feel trapped. The occult can give you an edge, a sense of purpose and pride. You’re not some dope flipping hamburgers or changing diapers at that moment. You’re a deity. You can move tables with your mind. You can do just about anything except make yourself truly happy.
Some would argue religion serves the same function or that religion is mere a successful “mainstream” cult. A small business turned Fortune 500. However, such attitudes tend to come about to self-aggrandize as well. “I know the truth, I found a logical flaw in your religion, I’m so smart!” Or, “It’s all about money, it’s a big scam!” Both maybe true, but they aren’t always. Anti-religious bigotry is just as religious and doctrinal as any other faith.
Each of us believe we have the truth, because in our own flawed minds we do. While we may convince another to share our perspective, the moment the converted retreats to the comfort of their own living quarters they chuckle and sigh. Those rare and intimate moments are the most sacred in my existence. Not the chuckling or sighing, but the quiet self-reflection unmolested by flashy symbols or fiery rhetoric, when real sobering sanity can prevail. This I call the great Church or Temple of the mind.
A cross is just a cross. A swastika is a swastika and a crescent moon is, well you get the picture. Peace of mind and the ability to reason effectively or to abdicate the desire to think is far more substantive. Some enhance this by using peyote, marijuana, tobacco or by refraining from meat. It makes no difference provided you’re the one in control of you. No symbol can ever make you or break you.
