Cooperate or you will be sedated!

Senegalese student Amadou Diouf, sedated by ICE agents with a syringe.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently settled a lawsuit in which they acknowledged ICE agents used medical syringes to inject “uncooperative” deportees with sedatives.

Senegalese student Amadou Diouf overstayed his student visa and was arrested by ICE agents. He spent two years in a detention facility before being placed on a plane to be deported, despite having a federal stay of deportation. He attempted to explain this to ICE agents, who he says forced him to the ground and injected him with sedatives through his clothes. As a result of this lawsuit, ICE now requires a court order before sedating deportees.

The sedative used by ICE is called Haldol. It’s approved by the FDA for treating psychotic disorders, and is normally administered under the authority of a medical doctor or an equally authorized healthcare practitioner.

Full Story

Since when do ICE agents have the authority to forcibly administer DEA regulated medications?

Since when are medications approved for treating persons suffering from a psychotic disorder appropriate for use on an average, sane person?

Come to think of it, it’s not such a bad idea after all. Let’s issue every cop in America a syringe and let them have a stab at little old ladies who shoplift and teenagers who stay out past curfew. After all, it’s for their own safety.
