Ramblings of a Closet Liberal
Originally posted as a response over on One Good Move. After re-reading it, and hearing some feedback from my last video, I think it belongs here:
I have recently started listening to “Air America”, and I find some of the commentary very informative. It is interesting to hear talk radio that celebrates FDR and ridicules Reagan- to force a joke- this ain’t my daddy’s talk radio.
That said, I am disappointed with this endless Hillary v. Obama business. This is the oldest game in the book- divide and conquer. I certainly share your fear of another Adley Stevenson scenario. I also agree that the election of McCain is comparable to the re-election of Richard “Peace with Honor” Nixon.
To me, this is about priorities. My #1 priority is seeing a speedy resolution to the war. This is why a Ron Paul Republican can default to Obama, even though the economic and social platforms are worlds apart.
For the longest time, I was convinced that Hillary supporters were insane loyalists, and blind to the fact that Obama could win in a landslide.
However, I think the Hillary camp has a secret fear. I think that with the recent gauntlet of sexist/racist accusations, this fear will remain a secret.
I think Hillary Clinton supporters are afraid that when the voters show up this election day, they will be afraid to vote for a black guy. And, in the interest of genuine honesty, they might be right.
I also have to be honest, re: Ferarro. I think she is a sexist, not a racist. I think her loyalty stems from a pro-woman view, not an anti-black view.
isms are a strange game. We all have them, no matter how progressive we might try to be. My isms are not based on gender or race, but rather class. This is why the “negro from the ghetto” is more appealing to me than “the woman born to money”. I have always been a sucker for the “rags to riches” story. To me, this is the quintessential American legend. See also: Reagan, born to poor farmers.
If Norm said to me that I hate Hillary because of some issues with my stepmother, he might be right. Sure, I could point to plenty of bad Clinton policy, but why am I so quick to give Obama a pass for many of the same policies?
Isms. He is my homeboy from the south side, and I want to see him prove to the world that blacks can succeed at ANYTHING in America- not just sports and music.
This election has show me that America is still a very sexist and racist place sometimes. And now the terrible question is this: does America hate women more, or blacks more?
The only historical president I can point to, given a total lack of minority Presidents (Catholic JFK not withstanding), is the fact that the 14th amendment came a generation before the 19th.
Maybe I have mommy issues. Maybe I genuinely think Obama is a superior candidate. Maybe I’m just wrapped up in this “first black President” meme. I can honestly say I’m not 100% sure.
To me, the most crushing thing about a McCain win would be the realization that Americans still hate blacks & women more than they hate war.
And that’s the sort of ugly truth I’m not ready to accept.
Keep on praying. And God Bless America- even if God is dead, or a flying spaghetti monster.
Sometimes self-delusion is the only defense we have.
ADDENDUM:
I’m not an idiot. I know Obama is CFR, anti-gun, and has been groomed by the evil agents of the New World Order to further their quest of world domination.
But the same is true of both Hillary and McCain.
We lost this one. We tried our best, and we lost. Unlike Hillary Clinton, I think we ought be gracious losers. I think it is possible, nay, necessary, to lose with dignity.
Let us also keep our loss in context: we lost the national election, but we kept our man in the House. We were cheated on many occasions by a corrupt system, most visibly in Alabama and New Orleans. We raised tens of millions of dollars, revealed a strong national presence, and forged long standing alliances with our fellow Revolutionaries.
The Revolution continues- on many, many fronts. There are easily hundreds of “issues” that one might object to, rally against, and ultimately, defeat. We must each pick our own priorities, and continue the fight, as allies, not enemies.
For me, the priority is war. For me, ending the war is the most critical issue we face, and the one I am most concerned with. I believe the election of Barack Obama as President will further this goal, and that this war will end faster under the command of Obama than either Clinton or McCain. I am also irrationally keen on the concept of a black President.
I understand that many of you will view me as a sellout because of my hesitant endorsement. I also understand that many of you still hold delusions of grandeur that Ron Paul can still somehow win this. He can’t. Furthermore: this illogical fantasy is self-destructive, and cannot be allowed to continue.
I am proud to be a Ron Paul freedom-fighter. I am proud to fight, to my death, to return our nation to a legal Republic once again. To these ends, sometimes the enemy of our enemy can prove an easy ally, if only temporarily.
Slowly but surely, allies of the cause are bleeding into the political society. They are aiding the election of Congressmen, and attending Ivy League law schools. We are not fighting this battle from anonymous basements any more- oh no- we are diving head first into the belly of the beast.
Let me put it this way: I currently lack the power to stop the NSA and TIA. However, I do NOT lack the power to ensure that back door systems are put in place, and that exceptions prepared for. In other words, lacking the capacity to stop the Matrix, I have decided instead to help program it- to OUR ends, not theirs. I am not alone in this. Yes, the Matrix will soon engulf us all- however- for allies to freedom, it has already been hacked to pieces.
As I have said many times before- this ends one of two ways: either we succeed, or we die. I am not “quitting”, but only because there is nothing to quit. Having made the system unavoidable, they have also made the revolution inevitable.
Is any of this sinking in yet?
The system must be made to turn on itself. And, like it or not, this black radicalism from the souf’ side of Shytown is absolutely CORE to the ethos of the Revolution. Like it or not, we are allies.
Yours in Liberty,
Zap
