<< Tick Tock Ron Paul Clone v1.0 >>
In Defense of Wright & The FLDS
Once again religious liberties are under fire in America. This time the gunfire emanates from so called mainstream right wingers. The defenders of religious freedoms appear to be hailing from the traditionally secular and atheist left. Politics sure does make for strange bedfellows. But where are the likes of Ron Paul, the Patriot movement, the Truthers and the disciples of Alex Jones? Nowhere to be found. Just ask poor Ed & Elaine Brown!
Enter the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. The good Reverend is a very pale skinned champion of underprivileged Americans, but his comments about HIV/AIDS and the Drug Trade for example aren’t too different than the midnight sermons found on pro-Ron Paul or libertarian radio programs. Wright, does right on the mean streets of Chicago. Offering private religious solutions to public problems. I thought this was a part of Newt Gingrich’s Contract with America and George W. Bush’s Faith Based Initiatives.
Now let us move down to Texas. The Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints or FLDS. Thank heavens, those poor folks didn’t go down the way the Branch Davidians did in Waco. Where is the outrage? Children are now being separated from their families over what may be a hoax. Due process is thrown out the window. Forced DNA testing and possible forced immunizations are now imminent for these poor children. The kids most of whom probably have never been abused will now taste real abuse at the hands of the State. Remember the whole Texas Youth Commission Scandal? These pedophiles are really going to get the kids. It isn’t a joke. It is very possible. Sure many will wind up in good Mormon households, but until they find enough foster parents, anything is possible.
Alright, now the FLDS does have a racist streak to it. They aren’t too keen on persons of color. But on totally opposite ends of the religious spectrum from black liberation theology to fundamentalist Mormonism we see beliefs that aren’t mainstream under assault.
Why isn’t anyone taking a stab at these two issues? Because they are politically unpopular. Libertarians don’t want to inherit Wright’s perceived wrongs and they don’t give a hoot about wacky desert people. Sure, libertarians will defend homosexuals, transvestites, the gold standard and private schools. But only in the right context. Real freedom includes the right to question authority from the pulpit in Chicago and to live like your forefathers in West Texas.
