Back to Eire, yes EU subsidies helped. But let’s not forget, the Irish are hard working, industrious and innovative people. To chalk up their prosperity to pointy head bureaucrats is a fallacy.
The Irish were smart enough to use “welfare” payments from the Franco-German axis to LOWER their marginal tax rates. This unleashed the raw entrepreneurial spirit of that Celtic island. They pulled a Reagan and created a generation of them.
In my opinion, the international dispute with the United Kingdom will be resolved through Euro-diplomacy. Let’s face it, those folks in Northern Ireland would be far better off living under Dublin’s rule than London’s.
A united independent neutral and sovereign island of Ireland is the answer. No EU/NATO, ditch UN membership, drop the Euro, adopt a Gold standard, reduce taxes even further and put Dubai to shame! All without the curse of “black Gold.”
