An Endorsement

The time has to come to endorse a candidate for President of the United States of America. The impact of this endorsement will be limited at best. Since in all likelihood I will choose to boycott the general elections in November.

After careful consideration I have selected a candidate whom I would vote for assuming exercising one’s suffrage was compulsory in this country. Congressman Robert “Bob” Barr of Georgia the Libertarian Party nominee for President is not at all my first choice. This was the man that brought us the William Jefferson Clinton Impeachment proceedings. Need I say more?

Fine, I will say more. Barr narrowly beat Libertarian die hard Mary Ruwart for the nomination. Ruwart is a Libertarian in the tradition of Harry Browne. Her defeat at the hands of Barr sealed the deal. We then move over the Constitution Party, an entity I once Chaired at the local level. As we all know the Constitution is a very fatally flawed document. I won’t even entertain their nominee whomever he/she may be.

The Green Party and the likes of Ralph Nader have never appealed to my sensibilities. Although, some of my good friends were once members of the Party. This brings us to Senator John McCain. Yes, he is old like Ronald Reagan. Yes, he’s of European extraction much like the Gipper. He’s even a Republican but he’s no Conservative let alone no libertarian. Oh yeah, Iraq, Iraq, Iraq.

Finally, we are left with the Neo-Marxist False Messiah Senator Obama. See why I’m saying home in November? Alright, yes I would vote for Senator Barack H. Obama. Here is why:

It is time to firmly rebuke the Bush/Clinton “junta” which has ruled America since circa 1980.

A liberal activist judiciary in the United States tends to favor more affirmations of natural rights than does a predominantly “conservative” Court.

Obama is more accessible, more malleable, less unwavering and more open to different ideas than Senator McCain.

He is more likely to get America out of the Middle East than Senator McCain, I give him many kudos and points for this possibility.

The Senator is more likely to make clean energy and energy independence a nation priority. While this is a collectivist endeavor and not the purview of the President or the Federal Government, who really cares anymore? Let’s just get it done.

Socialism might be fun after all. Heck, I don’t have health care and since I don’t pay much in Federal Income Taxes, bring it on.

Student Loans & Welfare. Yes, I do enjoy those benefits, so sign me up for some more Senator.

Housing bailouts. I sure own a boat load of houses. Maybe a bailout would boost prices. Just like bailing out poor students makes the sticker price for College more expensive, the same should ring true for housing, I say great. Heck, if I ever need to refinance and more credit is available then I’ll save even more.

Legalizing Marijuana. Well, I don’t smoke it. But sure if Obama can pull it off and put an end to the insane War on Drugs, then he will have done more than any Libertarian blogger could have ever hoped for and then some. Not that I care about the tax savings since that will be diverted to health care or some national energy independence scheme.

Maybe if I get cozy with the Senator and send in some checks, I could get a cushy no-show job or get nominated for some Ambassadorial position on some remote island somewhere. This is the time to buy government contracts and jobs. It’s the Dick Cheney way after all.

In the event I’m ever accused of racism I can hide behind support for the Senator.

Sadly, the road to prosperity isn’t paved with Federal programs or money. But the reality of the day tell us otherwise. Is it hypocritical for an adherent of libertarianism to support Obama? Probably. But if we examine it from the vantage point of self-interest then no. Either let’s have socialism or libertarianism. Since the latter isn’t on the ballot this year, then there is clearly one choice to make other than staying home and bitching.

In conclusion to this pseudo-Cobert like rant. Yes, I Lysander Spooner hereby endorse Barack Obama for President. Will he win? That’s for another post.

Barr is not only a hawk, he voted for the PATRIOT ACT. Although he now “regrets” it, he doesn’t deserve to utter the name Dr. Paul, much less count on support from the Paulians.

Sadly, as the author points out, this post amount to mere masturbation unless he takes the time to stand in line and vote for someone he doesn’t like. I would be a fool to claim ours is a rational system, even so, I still maintain a strong belief in voting.

Darn right about Barr. He literally makes Obama look like libertarian. This is by no means hyperbole.

Hillary by my estimation was the most “Conservative” candidate running for office in 2008.

All the more reason to run not walk away from those clowns.

There is a remote chance Obama will be as memorable of a President as JFK, minus the tragedy. We’ll see if the good Senator can appeal to the mind more than he can the heart.

Here’s my worst nightmare: Obama gets elected with Hillary as VP. Then some “lone gunman” whacks Obama and what-do-you-know, Hillary’s the prez.
