The Iraq War: Only 3.33 Years Left…

From Yahoo! News:

Iraq and the United States have agreed that a planned security pact will require all U.S. troops to leave by the end of 2011, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said on Monday, while Washington said no final deal had been reached.

Maliki’s remarks were the most explicit statement yet that the increasingly assertive Iraqi government expects the U.S. presence to end in three years as part of a deal between Washington and Baghdad to allow them to stay beyond this year.

Recap for those still paying attention:

1. The Iraqi government wants us to leave

2. The majority of Americans want us to leave

3. Everyone agrees that, sooner or later, we must leave

Obama: “We must withdrawal from Iraq in a responsible fashion”; read: 3.33 years is a responsible number

McCain: “We will never surrender”; read: we won’t have to- we are scheduled to “win” in 2011.

Super fun-time bonus: Either McCain or Obama will go down in history as “the man who ended the Iraq War” despite this deal pre-existing either potential presidency.
