Actually, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s response to Congressman Ron Paul was correct. The prevailing authorities in Afghanistan enabled and supported elements which according to the official story struck the United States of America on September 11th, 2001.

The same can not be said of Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. The theory with Iraq is that Saddam Hussein would have acted as the Taliban in allowing terrorists to launch a strike against the United States much like the attacks of September 11th, 2001.

This is illogical because that would have led to the destruction of Saddam Hussein’s regime. He had much to lose in fostering or fomenting the export of terrorism from Iraq to America.

Afghanistan was and is to a large extent a stateless country. Much like Somalia is presently. Now, if heaven forbid America or its allies are about to be hit by terrorists coming from Somalia. Will we go back into Somalia to prevent this?

The reality is even scarier. Congress offered no declaration of war against either Afghanistan or Iraq as required by the Constitution. For that matter, no declaration of war has been issued by Congress since proclaiming a state of war against Nazi Germany and its allies the axis powers.

War is not a matter that should be left up to unelected bureaucrats or Presidents seeking to play politics. The founding fathers foresaw the those dangers over two centuries ago.
